Step 1 — Wall system & analysis
iDesign sequence
1. Select Sheet Pile + Cantilever Auto for a new design.
2. Enter geometry, water and surcharge.
3. Define the soil profile (Soil Profile tab).
4. Review section / embedment / M / V / deflection in Results.
5. If sheet pile fails → Soldier Pile + Lagging.
6. If cantilever still fails → Supported mode: enable supports and enter compatible reactions.
7. Select waler / prop / tie rod / tendon / raker in Supports.
8. Or select Soil Nail Wall for a FHWA GEC 11 soil nail design (nail layout, pullout, facing and block checks).
Step 2 — Geometry, water & surcharge

Wall cross-section
Axial forces come from the reactions entered on the Supports tab. Where a reaction is 0, a tributary-area estimate is shown and tagged (est.) — use "Estimate reactions by tributary area" on the Supports tab to adopt the estimates as design reactions.
Lateral pressure vs depth (ksf)
Shear vs depth (kip/member)
Moment vs depth (kip-ft/member)
Deflection vs depth (in)
Shear, moment & deflection — calculation table
Integration from the net line load q(z): ΔV = (q1+q2)/2·Δz (trapezoidal); ΔM = V1·Δz + (2q1+q2)·Δz²/6 (exact for linear q); support reactions apply discrete jumps to V. Deflection by moment-area/CG integration.
Step 3 — Soil profile & earth pressure coefficients
Enter layers from top down. Use User coefficients when adopting NAVFAC / Kérisel-Absi / project-specific Ka and Kp. Rankine is available for level backfill. Cohesion is listed for record but is not subtracted from pressure in this engine.
Step 4 — Wall section selection & properties
Properties are read from the section libraries.
Step 5 — Support levels & selectable components
Cantilever Auto: set all Enabled = No. Supported mode: enter the distributed horizontal reaction at each support line (kip/ft of wall). Only the parameters each support type needs are shown — unused component fields stay empty. Multi-support reactions must come from a compatible staged / structural analysis.
Raker thrust-block design inputs
Preliminary concrete dead-block sizing for rakers (sliding + bearing). The PE of record verifies block location, constructability and global stability.

Overall status
Section + embedment optimization
Each wall system is screened independently against the full library: flexure (Sx ≥ 12·Mmax/(0.66·Fy)), shear and the deflection criterion. The optimum minimizes steel quantity (or entered cost). Candidate deflection scales with Ix,selected/Ix,candidate.
Sheet pile — independent 1-ft strip analysis
Soldier pile — independent tributary-width analysis
Support depth optimization
Searches support depths (reactions re-estimated by tributary area at each trial) to minimize top deflection, construction cost, or a balanced score. Every trial iteration is listed; the best feasible (PASS) combination is highlighted. This is a screening search — confirm the chosen depths with a compatible staged analysis.
Estimate inputs
Quantities are taken off live from the current design. Rates are editable and saved in this browser.
Construction rates
Seeded from Texas public sources (TxDOT bid averages) and allowances — verify against current market before pricing work.
Materials takeoff (live)
Cost estimate (live)
Planning-level estimate only. The $/SF wall rates are all-in TxDOT averages; support $/EA lines are additive allowances — reconcile with your bid structure. Excludes design fees, dewatering, monitoring and traffic control.
